Umberto Cesari Liano Sangiovese Cabernet Sauvignon

For Umberto Cesari, producing good wine is a family tradition with deep roots in this area of Emilia Romagna It is here that Umberto and his wife Giuliana started their company in 1965 by buying 20 hectares of land in the hills. From then on, he has continually expanded and increased the quality of his wines and today the Company extends over an area of 100 hectares divided into distinct vineyards; La Casetta, Parolino, Ca  Grande and Laurento, each of which provides the perfect micro-climate for the vines planted. The two wines that have created a great response from the day of release are the Moma wines. The Moma project pays homage to Bologna-born Giorgio Morandi, one of the most important Italian artists of the 20th century. A new label, dedicated to a contemporary artist is chosen by a panel of experts every three years. This year the winner was "Paper Glass" by Elena Valentini.

The grapes are de-stemmed and pressed . Fermentation takes place in specially designed tanks where the cap is kept constantly submerged. The wine is then racked off into 60HL wooden barrels for at least 6 months and then into Allier bariques where it is aged for a further year. The wine is then refined in bottle for a further 6 months prior to release.

The average age of the vines is 15 years old. Yields per hectare are 7,500 kg. Careful canopy management enables the clusters to reach optimum maturity.

Tasting Note
A complex and lovely aroma of ripe fruit and spices with a hint of vanilla. In the mouth the wine is intense and well-structured with integrated tannins.
