ABV: 14%

Mourvedre is the famous grape of Provence (and of the appellation of Bandol in particular) but has made something of a name for itself in South Africa. Introduced by pioneering winemakers attempting to produce a Cape iteration of the famous 'GSM' blend, it is well suited to the climate of Swartland, reaching full phenolic ripeness and developing heady notes of cassis, black plum and dark chocolate, finishing with a subtle, peppery, herbal nuance bringing bags of moreishness. This is a great varietal Mourvedre, one for fans of the wines of southern France.

Following fermentation, an extended maceration on the skins was conducted to extract as much flavour as possible whilst softening Mourvedre's typically prickly tannins. No animal-based fining agents or winery aids were used during the vinification.

The Swartland region of South Africa is at the forefront of the new wave Cape wine movement. Swartland Winery attempts to showcase the very best of this rugged, unforgiving terroir, crafting an expressive range of wines that typify the zeitgeist of the modern South African wine scene with the aid of vegan-friendly winemaking techniques.
