Paringa Estate Peninsula Shiraz

The Peninsula Shiraz from Paringa Estate is an excellent example of Australian cool climate Shiraz. This delicious red wine shows remarkable flavours and it's silky smooth tannins are wonderful. Seve this brilliant Shiraz with shepherds pie or Moroccan cuisine or just enjoy it on it's own with good friends

Founded in 1984 by Lindsay McCall when he purchased a derelict orchard, Paringa Estate started small with a three tonne harvest in 1988 but has grown considerably in the intervening years. Production is now at 200 tonnes and Paringa Estate is one of the most highly awarded wineries in Australia, regularly winning gold trophies for its Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. “One of the best, if not the best, wineries on the Peninsula” says James Halliday.

Vineyard

The fruit comes from the Paringa Estate vineyard in Moorooduc and Sea Vista vineyard on Paringa Road, Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula. The vines are aged between 15 and 20 years.

Winemaking

The berries were destemmed and the two varieties were co-fermented in two tonne open stainless steel fermenters. This was followed by 11 months ageing in French oak barriques, of which approximately 10% were new.

Tasting Note

5% Viognier is co fermented in this blend and adds a subtle hint of violets to the bright purple fruit and peppercore. A wonderfully enticing cool climate Shiraz with exceptionally fine and seamless tannins
