Paringa Estate Chardonnay

The Paringa Estate Chardonnay is one of Australia's most awarded wines. This is a serious white wine with unlimited flavours and subtleties. Forget anything you have heard about bad Aussie Chardonnay, this delicious wine will rival anything from France. Yes it's oaked, yes it is bold and brash but boy is it a lovely wine when served with the right food.

Founded in 1984 by Lindsay McCall when he purchased a derelict orchard, Paringa Estate started small with a three tonne harvest in 1988 but has grown considerably in the intervening years. Production is now at 200 tonnes and Paringa Estate is one of the most highly awarded wineries in Australia, regularly winning gold trophies for its Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. “One of the best, if not the best, wineries on the Peninsula”says James Halliday.

This is sourced from estate grown fruit only, from the home block at the cellar door and the neighbouring vineyard leased by Paringa. The 13 year old vines are grown in the typical red volcanic soil, known as Ferrasol.

The hand picked fruit was whole bunched pressed and racked to tank. It was then barrel fermented in Frenchoak, of which 30% was new. Approximately 30% of the yeast is indigenous. Barrel maturation took place on leesover a period of 10 months, during which the barrels where stirred fortnightly.

Tasting Note

A slightly richer style than the Peninsula Chardonnay with more weight and texture from the French oak barrels used. The honeyed notes are more prominent and the ripe peach and lemon balm notes are offset by the typical, lifted acidity. A definite wine to be enjoyed with food.

Serving Suggestion

Sublime with grilled vegetables, vegan stir fry and vegan rice dishes.
