Lake Breeze Bullant Cabernet Merlot

The Lakes Breeze Bullant Cabernet Merlot is a blend of two classic Australian grape varieties that work wonderfully together. This delicious red wine is a delight to drink on it's own as the time spent in oak has softened the tannins and left a silky, smooth wine. Try it with a classy burger or steak to bring out the best in it's flavours.

Lake Breeze winemaker Greg Follett is part of the 4th generation of Folletts to work on the family property, which has been in the grape growing business in Langhorne Creek for 120 years. Only in the past 25 years have they been making wine, and have rapidly built an enviable reputation for consistently producing outstanding wines. Greg uses exclusively old vine fruit (and the best 30 per cent of that) resulting in wines that are concentrated and rich. He takes a ‘hands on’ approach, responsible for all facets of the business, from fruit selection through to sales and marketing.

Vintage

A cooler year which is clear in the lifted peppery aromas in the blend.

Vineyard

The vineyards are situated in Langhorne Creek, South Australia. An average vine age of 40 years with all vines being on their own roots. The soils are generally alluvial sandy loam with some over a clay base.

Winemaking

Fruit selection was paramount for this wine. Small, open, static tanks were used for a fermentation on the skins,which lasted seven to 12 days. The wine was then pressed straight to oak barriques to complete fermentation, followed by 10 months maturation in barrel. The wine was aged in 40% French oak, of which 30% was new and 10% American oak (10% new). The individual components were kept separately before blending and the wine was not fined or filtered prior to bottling.

Tasting Note

An amazing lifted bouquet of blackberries with a touch of mocha. Rich and smooth on the palate it offers a lovely soft finish with polished tannins.

Serving Suggestion

Great with a gourmet vegan burger or a classic vegan ratatouille.
