Dona Paula, Paula Sauvignon Blanc
Doña Paula, Paula Sauvignon Blanc
Grape variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
From: Mendoza, Argentina
Argentine Sauvignon Blanc can be a difficult beast, with many examples that are often lifeless and boring, with neither the passionfruit inflected herbaceousness of Marlborough or the verve and precision of the Loire. This Sauvignon by Dona Paula comes from vineyards in Tupungato, planted at altitudes of over 1000m where the high diurnal temperature range ensures the wines remain fresh, fruity and acidic, despite the heat and easy ripening. This is immediately apparent on the palate, with great balance between ripe peach and grapefruit notes and more temperate flavours of gooseberry. The acidity is lean, fresh but far from bracing, supporting the wine towards a long, sustained finish. This is great Sauvignon Blanc, for the adventurous and traditionalists alike.
In the winery, the grapes were fermented cool to retain the natural fruit flavours. No animal-based fining agents or winery aids were used during the vinification.
