Domaine des Pourthie Merlot

Vintage: 2016

Grape variety: 100% Merlot

From: Languedoc-Roussillon, France

ABV: 13%

It wasn't until the pioneering work of such estates as Mas de Daumas Gassac that the Bordelais grape varieties were comprehensively planted in the Languedoc, yet it now seems obvious to many that they should be. Down in the south, as opposed to Bordeaux, there's no chance of them not ripening, and the Merlot grown in these warmer, sunnier climes shows an intensity of juicy fruit not often found in its homeland. This wine from Domaine des Pourthie shows plenty of ripe red fruit on the palate, backed with an earthy, heady coffee note and a burst of soft yet persistent tannins. A wine of great structure and eminent drinkability, this is the perfect weeknight refreshment at a suitably weeknight price.

The wine was matured without the use of oak to retain the natural fruit character. No animal-based fining agents or winery aids were used during the vinification.
