Andeluna 1300 Merlot 2015 Mendoza

The Andeluna 1300 Merlot name comes from the altitude at which the grapes are grown, 1300 meters above sea level. This delicious Vegan Merlot is medium bodied with distinct flavours and aromas of Morello cherry, plum and blackcurrant. It is perfect when served with lighter grilled vegetables or tapas and is delightful to drink on it's own, be careful though as it's a 15% ABV wine!

Winery Information:

The name "Andeluna" evokes the gorgeous scenery of the Andes Mountains under the light of a full Argentinean Moon. Andeluna Wines is a boutique winery with estate-owned vineyards fo8nded in 2003 by the partnership of an American businessman and a passionate Argentine vintner. Michel Rolland, a French specialist and wine guru, works with winemaker Silvio Alberto to create boutique wines from their low-yield vines. The winery and vineyards cover almost 200 acres and are located 1,300 meters above sea level in the Uco Valley of the Mendoza region. Their 4,500 square meter wine cellar and in-house laboratory allow them to produce wines to a high standard. The winery cow combines top-of-the-line winemaking processes with the culture and terroir of Mendoza to produce award-winning red wines.

The grapes are hand harvested. Pre fermentation maceration is carried out at a low temperature. Then fermentation is carried out in stainless steel using selected yeasts. The juice is pumped over three times, twice daily. The wine is then aged in French and American oak for six months and then aged for a further six months in the bottle before release.

Grapes come from Andeluna's estate owned vineyards located in Tupungato at an altitude of 1.300 mts. Canopy management ensures small yields of less than 10,000kg per hectre. The vines are irrigated by a drop-water system that regulates and supplys the exact amount of water that the plant needs.

Tasting Note
This Merlot has a medium body and very good structure and balance. Aromas of Morello cherry, black currant, blackberry and cinnamon with notes of chocolate, anise and minerals combine with flavors of cherry, vanilla, black pepper and spices to complement the sweet, delicate tannins and produce a noble wine with a long and gentle finish.
