Chateau Ksara Reserve Du Couvent
Chateau Ksara Reserve du Couvent
Grape variety: 40% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon
From: Bekaa Valley, Lebanon
This is another cracking offering from Chateau Ksara (and once more an extremely good value one). It's an interesting blend of traditional French grapes - a sort of Bordeaux meets Rhone wine - and the two halves meld together extremely well. On the palate, the Syrah component brings a spicy, pepperry, cassis-like character, while the Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon lend notes of earthy plum, backed by a streak of vanilla-flecked oak. Try it with a butternut squash and rosemary casserole.
Following fermentation, the wine was matured in French oak casks before a final period of ageing in bottle. No animal-based fining agents or winery aids were used during the vinification.
Chateau Ksara is Lebanon's oldest winery, founded in the early 19th century. An industry pioneer, it has adapted the best of French winemaking tradition to forge a distinctly Lebanese style. Continuing in this spirit, today it combines organic viticulture with low-sulphur and vegan-friendly winemaking technology.
